It is intended to be used by state agencies for any public maps that depict the reservation boundary for any official State purposes and to determine jurisdiction for regulatory agencies. The boundary is defined by separate acts of Congress that restored specific areas of land by legal land descriptions (established by treaty between the United States and the Eastern Shoshone and Bannock Tribes, 15 Stat. 673 (July 3, 1868), and diminished by the Act of December 15, 1874, Ch. 2, 18 Stat. 291, the Act of June 7, 1897, Ch. 3, 30 Stat. 62, and the Act of March 3, 1905, Ch. 1452, 33 Stat. 1016, and as subsequently restored pursuant to Acts of Congress).This dataset represents the summary of all such applicable acts which were then dissolved to create one polygon for visual representation purposes. Baseline information for the data was the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Legacy Geographic Coordinate Data Base (GCDB) which was a collection of geographic information representing the United States Public Land Survey System and other official surveys.</SPAN></SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV> The purpose of this dataset is to represent the official boundary of the Wind River Indian Reservation (WRIR) as determined by the State of Wyoming. Pursuant to 2014 Wyo. Sess. Laws Ch. 26, Sec. 322, p. 152, any official map produced or published by an agency of the State of Wyoming depicting the boundaries of the Wind River Indian Reservation shall show the boundaries set forth in this dataset. No adjustment to this boundary may be made by any state agency without the express consent of the Wyoming Attorney General or his designee. Each of the documents describing diminished and restored areas were mapped according to the general rule that when a river is identified as a boundary, then the area is mapped to the middle of the channel of the river. If the quarter quarter survey or lotting is described as part of the boundary, the entire quarter quarter, lot and/or river lot is mapped. For the purposes of this dataset polygons were unioned and dissolved to create one contiguous polygon. Quality control and verification of polygons was performed in 2009-2010 and 2014 by consultant of the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office.
